make a delicious Homemade Margherita Pizza:

Ingredients:

For the Pizza Dough:

1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 teaspoon sugar

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

For the Pizza Toppings:

1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce

1 1/2 cups fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or shredded

Fresh basil leaves

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

Prepare the Pizza Dough:

In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Stir until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.

Let the Dough Rise:

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can go, usually around 500°F (260°C) or as high as it will go.

Roll Out the Dough:

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it in half (this recipe makes two pizzas). Roll out one portion of the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

Assemble the Pizza:

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Spread half of the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Place slices of fresh mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.

Tear or place fresh basil leaves over the cheese.

Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil over the pizza, and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Bake the Pizza:

Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

Repeat:

Repeat the process with the second portion of dough and the remaining toppings, or save it for later use.

Slice and Serve:

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute or two. Slice it, and serve hot.

Enjoy your homemade Margherita Pizza! It's a classic Italian favorite with a simple yet delicious combination of flavors.
